My first job was at the age of 13.
One summer my father taught me how to roof. I worked for my father
during the summers while I was in school. He was the project
manager for a development company that built shopping centers and
hotels. I was able to learn almost every trade from the contractors on
the job. When I was about 20 or so I got the job to get one of the
shopping centers roofed. The crew was around 20 high school students.
Most of them had to be taught how to roof. I think my father was
hoping I would find another profession, but it didn't work. I am still
at it today. There have been many times I wish I had listened but I
did learn to be in charge and to be responsible for my work. |
